Of all the key individuals mentioned in the continuously unfolding sordid saga of Senator John Ensign's dishonor and dishonesty, none is more deserving of sympathy than Brandon Hampton, the son of Doug and Cindy Hampton. I mean can you imagine what it feels like to know that your parents were selling the sexual services of your mother so that dad and son could have nice cushy jobs?
As for Doug Hampton's constantly changing story, well the guy is trying to make him and his wife and kid to be the victims. Come on, his wife was a willing concubine to Senator Ensign and he (Doug) seems to have profited richly from it. The only victim I see is the family of John Ensign and the people of Nevada, who both trusted a man who turned out to be no more than a two penny crook.
The right course for Senator Ensign, if he has the smallest amount of decency left, is to resign his seat immediately so that the Republican governor of Nevada can appoint some honorable conservative to take the seat and build up momentum for the scheduled reelection in 2012. But then, hoping that John Ensign has decency in any amount is probably hoping to much.
