Absolutist?

That sophisticated online shill, SLATE, picked up the foaming-at-the-mouth-quadrennial drumbeat of the mainstream press this week in accusing the Republicans of becoming 'absolutist' in their abortion plank. I will concede that point that the GOP platform is rather cut and dry on the issue and calls for the right of the unborn child to be protected unless there is a danger to the life of the mother.

So is the Democratic one. And that makes for two party platforms that are farther on each side of the position that a vast majority of Americans are on this, the most deeply divisive of any social question of our times.

The Democratic plank, which the media joyfully ignores, is equally uncompromising and even more extremist: it calls for taxpayer funding of abortion on demand for any reason, anywhere, anytime, and on girls and women of any age and a federal law to statutorily mandate this(you'd think my neighbor George Tiller paid money to have that plank put into the DNC platform).

The fact of the matter is that a vast majority of Americans actually AGREE on many things about abortion. They want it legal in first few weeks after conception and even a little later in cases of rape and incest. They also want it legal in the event that the life or physical health of the mother is in danger. They want it prohibited in the second and third trimesters unless the life of the mother is in imminent danger. They want those doctors prosecuted who perform the ghastly brutality of partial birth or born alive 'abortions'. They don't want taxpayer money to subsidize abortions at all. They support parental consent laws with judicial bypass.

As you can see, both the GOP and the Democrats are out of touch with the American people on this. The only one 'absolutist' here is the left wing mainstream media that sees the best chance since 1932 of having radical liberals control the White House and Congress and don't want to lose it.
