You'll pardon me for my rather scattered thoughts and perhaps syntax today as I am on pain medication due to a thumb injury. Not to worry (or to worry, for lib Dems..lol), it should be all good in a couple of days.
Tonight I remember a line from the opening of the convention..a line uniquely Reaganesque...that America is a love story of hopeless romantics, the story of a love greater than self. And that is where I mention a liberal Democrat today.
Few men in our times, and fewer still amongst them are politicians, have shown the courage and decency of the 2000 Democratic nominee for the Vice Presidency, Senator Joseph Lieberman. At a time when the Democratic Party is in the ascendant and his very committe chairmanship, and indeed his very career, is in jeopardy if he crosses his party, Joe Lieberman has thrown partisanship overboard to clutch to the lifeboat of country. Senator Lieberman is a liberal and has everything to lose by his support of his friend John McCain, no matter who wins the presidential election. But there he is...putting personal honor and patriotic duty above partisan loyalty. For Lieberman truly believes that America will be safer with John McCain at its helm.
This, my friends, is what the love story of America is all about.
